A choke is an inductor designed to have a very high reactance at a given frequency or frequency range. It is used either to prevent the passage of alternating current from one part of a circuit to another, while allowing direct current to pass, or to prevent the passage of common mode current, while allowing differential mode current to pass, so they act as filters.
